Panel Discussion 2025

The Canada-Nepal Forum for Research had hosted a timely panel discussion on “Perspectives on Canada–Nepal Relationship” on August 17, 2025. Against the backdrop of heightened U.S. tariffs under President Trump’s second term—impacting Canada’s economy despite a free trade agreement—Canada is seeking to diversify its trade and diplomatic ties beyond its traditional U.S. reliance. This shift presents a unique opportunity for Nepal to position itself as a strategic partner. Bringing together experts from diplomacy, economics, and the Nepali diaspora, the discussion will explore how Canada–Nepal relations can be strengthened in this evolving geopolitical climate. Our distinguished panelists will address critical questions about bilateral trade potential, investment, cultural exchange, and the role of the diaspora in deepening ties. This event will examine how both nations can transform current global challenges into opportunities for mutual growth.
